Is there actually a difference between renovation and remodel?
Yes, even if the words get used interchangeably. A renovation keeps the kitchen’s footprint and updates what’s in it – cabinetry, counters, appliances, finishes. A remodel changes the space itself: walls come down, the island moves, the sink goes where the fridge used to be. Remodels cost more and take longer because they bring plumbing, electrical, and often structural work into scope. Do I need permits in Oakville?
Generally, permits are not required for changes in cabinet layouts or cosmetic upgrades. Electrical, plumbing, gas lines, and structural changes are the elements that require a permit, inspection and final approvals. We provide engineering services that secure a sound evaluation and expert completion of this work, and we handle the permit process on your behalf so you don’t have to navigate the paperwork yourself. All work is inspected and meets current Ontario Building Code standards.
What cabinetry can you build?
Everything we install comes out of our own workshop, built to the precise dimensions of your room with no filler panels or off-the-shelf compromises. Style-wise, we cover the full range: inset Shaker, classic raised panel, flat-slab modern, handleless European, mixed-material, and heritage-appropriate profiles for older homes. Finishes span hand-painted enamels, stained hardwoods – white oak, walnut and rift-cut oak are perennial Oakville favourites – and premium laminates and veneers. Interior fittings receive equal attention, with soft-close hardware, cutlery inserts, pull-out pantries, waste-sorting drawers, and appliance garages standard in most designs.
Do you design the kitchen, or do I hire a designer separately?
Design is baked into everything we do. Our in-house design team leads layout, cabinetry, finishes, lighting, and material selections, and we produce full 3D renderings so you can see your kitchen in three dimensions well before the first order is placed. Design-build under one roof means fewer handoffs, fewer miscommunications, and one team that’s accountable from the first sketch to the final checklist. Many Oakville clients come to us having previously worked with a separate designer and contractor, and once they’ve been through our process they rarely want to split the two again.
Can we stay in the house while the kitchen is being built?
Most of our Oakville clients do exactly that. We help set up a temporary kitchen in a dining room, basement or spare space, with the fridge, microwave, and a workable prep area so daily routines keep going. There’s unavoidable dust and noise during demo and early construction; we install dust barriers and clean up thoroughly at the end of every workday. Families with very young children or active work-from-home routines sometimes choose a short stay elsewhere during the messiest weeks, and we’re happy to coordinate timing either way. The project runs on your schedule, not ours.
Do you work only in Oakville?
Oakville is a core part of our business, but we also run Burlington Kitchen Renovations and Hamilton Kitchen Renovations, along with the surrounding communities within about an hour of our shop. How do I vet a kitchen renovation company?
Start by looking for specialists – a firm that mostly does kitchens will outperform a general contractor who does a kitchen or two a year. Ask to see completed work, not just renderings; visit a finished home if you can. Check Google and Houzz reviews, confirm licensing and insurance, and make sure they’ll pull permits. A thorough written contract with itemized pricing, a dedicated project manager, and an in-house design team are all strong signals. Lastly, make sure they have a strong network of suppliers – preferably Canadian suppliers in all cases where possible!
Which appliance brands do you typically recommend?
We have an in-house appliance expert who will answer all of your questions, and our relationships in the appliance industry get you the best pricing available. We also coordinate delivery, installation and all the finishing. For most Oakville homes, we see a mix of Wolf, Sub-Zero, Miele, Thermador, and Monogram for the higher-end packages, with Bosch and KitchenAid filling in where value matters more than absolute top-tier performance. Panel-ready refrigeration and dishwashers are very common – they disappear into the cabinetry for a cleaner, more custom look. Induction cooktops have become a common request for safety and speed. We lock in appliances early in design because cabinet openings, ventilation requirements, and electrical load all follow from the specs.
What countertop material holds up best?
Quartz is the clear favourite among Oakville homeowners – it’s tough, non-porous, maintenance-light, and the pattern and colour selection has become remarkable in the last few years. Natural stone like marble and granite remains a strong choice if you want a one-of-one surface and are comfortable with periodic sealing and a bit of patina. Porcelain slabs are a newer option that handle heat, UV and staining exceptionally well, and they’ve become our go-to for kitchens with lots of south-facing glass. For islands, we sometimes pair a stone perimeter with a butcher-block or walnut feature section. We bring samples to your house so you can see them in your kitchen’s light.
Do you offer warranty coverage?
Every Oakville project is backed by a comprehensive written warranty covering both workmanship and materials. Our own build warranty covers a defined period after handover, and the cabinetry, countertops and appliances each carry their own manufacturer warranties – we help you register them and keep the paperwork organized in one place. If anything goes sideways within the warranty window, we come back and make it right, no extra charge. The terms are laid out plainly in your contract so you know exactly what’s covered and for how long. Our aim is a kitchen that still functions and looks right a decade out, not just on handover day.
